I was wondering what the best way would be to make sure individual IPs can only use a certain amount of bandwidth. So for instance each unique IP is only allowed to download x amount of files or they get their IP dropped.

I just want to make sure one person can't use up all of my monthly bandwidth in one day.

Also, if you suggest using iptables, can you give me a guide on how to use iptables for this purpose?

You should share more info about your linode plataform, and what kind of traffic is going to be limitied or throttled.

Without any information about this I would suggest you install ISPconfig, it has a bandwith manager embeded
