Ubuntu 10.04 libpam upgrade breaks cron

This is a notice to ubuntu 10.04 users, I upgraded my servers today (usual apt upgrade) and the following modules were updated.

libpam-modules 1.1.1-2ubuntu5 => 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2

libpam-runtime 1.1.1-2ubuntu5 => 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2

libpam0g 1.1.1-2ubuntu5 => 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2

A few hours later I noticed my crons had broken with the error "CRON[18271]: Module is unknown", restarting cron fixed the issue.

A little heads up for those that haven't upgraded yet.

Thanks for this!

I just happened to install munin around the same time and couldn't figure out why the cron jobs weren't working.

Cheers.

This is bug 790538 (thanks to dand for finding it). They've pulled the broken packages from the mirrors, so upgrading should be safe now (or soon enough, once they've upgraded), as long as you don't mind some 404 errors.

And FYI, it's not just 10.04.

A fix has now been released.
