I'm a developer and I'm not confident setting up a production Linode from scratch and will most likely go with a managed option for production apps.

I do get a little overwhelmed with some parts of a new Linode set up from scratch so wondered if there is anywhere I can go and pay for a custom stackscript to my requirements?

I can't seem to find any existing ones that are even close to the set up I want.

If anyone can help or even point in the direction of somewhere I can get more stackscripts from I'd really appreciate it.

Alternatively if I go for a managed service from Linode can they do the initial server set up too or do they just manage it for the monthly fee?

The spec I want is:

Centos 7
PHP 5.6
MariaDB 10
SSH config
Firewall config
FTP config
Apache

That's more or less it but like I say, I can't confidently set up the security and had some issues with FTP when I set it up myself.

My other alternative is to forget Linode altogether until I'm more proficient in configuring LAMP environments and use a 100% hosted service from somewhere else.

I use Linode for my dev servers etc so I'm not a complete dunce, I'm just not confident in using it for production and mission critical apps.

For my dev setups I use Virtualmin and it works great but I see it as an unnecessary overhead if I only want to run one application from the VPS. Maybes I'm wrong and maybes I should simply stick with Virtualmin as a lot of the config is there for me.

You can talk with them about requirements, bounce ideas off each other, and come up with a solution that meets your needs. Then they will configure it for you.

Virtualmin will have approaching zero overhead so I wouldn't worry about that aspect.
