hello.. running Apache2 on the gentoo distro..

well when I isse a /etc/init.d/apache2 start

I get

* Starting apache2... [ !! ]
#>

it doesn't give me any more than that, any clues??

Look for the apache error_log file -- usually that will tell you what it needs... Usually the file is in /var/log/apache2 -- but check your httpd.conf file for the ErrorLog directive.
