I''ve installed an Ubuntu 10.04 LAMP and configured SSL. I will host only 1 domain on my Linode. Before I order a SSL certificate, I need to make sure I've done everything correctly, especially setting up the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). I have no idea how to do this.

Let's say my site name is "mysite.com". Does that mean my hostname should be "mysite.com", as reflected in /etc/hostname ? Do I need to install Bind9? Also, what other settings do I need to make to make sure I have a FQDN so I can install the SSL cert?

Your FQDN can be any valid (sub)domain and has nothing to do with SSL. My server might be named green.example.com, and my website of https://www.barkerjr.net will work fine.

I skip Bind. Why waste the memory? Linode dns management works great.
