I am new to sysadmin stuff and LAMP. I am trying to get the big picture for how to deal with the following scenario...

I have a live e-com site elsewhere that I am just about finished redesigning on my linode, currently as a subdomain of my main domain.

Things I need to do while the old site is live:
1. Install a trial version of the commercial cert so I can learn how to set it up right.
2. Assign a new IP to the site so that it is no longer a subdomain of anything.
3. Troubleshoot SSL on the site until ready to deploy.
4. Do whatever (I forget right now, but I will look it up) to get this site live and the old one dead. (I am calling this deployment)

Are my steps in the right order? Did I miss something?
