I'm setting up a postfix / dovecot mailserver on my linode. I can read email on this from Thunderbird, but can't reply. Reply efforts fail on SMTP timeout. Thunderbird is configured to use port 25, SSL/TLS, normal authentication (but I've tried none). None of the efforts are even appearing in the logs on the server. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong here? |

It looks like my ISP maybe blocking port 25. I can telnet to port 25 from the linode itself, but not from my remote computer. How do I revise configuration to connect to SMTP over the default port? |

Don't have enough time to give a full answer, but look around for enabling the submission port (587) for your mailserver. |
