I would prefer to use ssmtp and just forward my mail to a host instead of setting up something more complicated. I will only be sending 5 or so emails a day and only be using them to inform me of what is happening in the machine. Does Linode provide a mail host? I could not find anyting anywhere that would lead me to believe this, but I thought I would ask before configuring something else. Thanks! |

What I have done is install qmail and vpopmail to forward emails to my gmail account. Works pretty well for me. Is this what you're looking for? |

That is what I will have revert to if Linode does not provide a SMTP mail host. Thanks! |

I don't see why they would provide one. They're a server hosting company, after all. Any kind of email traffic should be each our own responsibilities. *shrug* |

If your ISP doesn't do netblock limiting, and does smtp w/login, you can use that. I use stunnel to conncet to my lug's secure SMTP server, which I provide login to to whatever needs smtp on my box. It works great for me. |

alot of ISPs do provide a SMTP server to use. I guess if nothing else worked out, short of setting up your own mail host, you could ask someone around here if you can use theirs -Brian |
