Hi all,

I recently had problems with Yahoo, AOL, and MSN categorizing personal emails from my linode as spam. In recent years, apparently they have built up reputation systems based upon IP addresses. By default, if they know nothing about your IP address, they assume all email from that IP is spam, regardless of its content. You can help by essentially "registering" your IP address with them individually.

To save other folks time in looking up these URLs, I have collected a few below for the venerable three:

http://postmaster.aol.com/cgi-bin/whitelist/whitelist_guides.pl
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/bulkv2.html
https://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?productKey=senderid&page=support_senderid_options_form_byemail

I didn't find a similar page for Gmail, but I am also not seeing problems with email sent to gmail accounts, either.

They also all suggest having an SPF record associated with your domain and a non-generic (read: not the linode default) reverse DNS name. Fill in each of these forms with your IP, domains, and SPF information, wait for a confirmation, and hopefully your email will go through easier.

Feel free to add to/update this list.

- Jared
