Hi everyone.

2 months ago I managed to configure my first Linode Ubuntu 10.04 server, install an Apache2 webserver, add a domain, install Joomla 1.7 cms and install Exim4 send only mail.
I followed all the Linode instructions and everything worked. Fantastic!

In Joomla I setup the email as mailer SMTP, from email infor@mydomain.com, Sendmail path, /usr/sbin/sendmail and SMTP auth No and SMTP port 25.

Then i did something that I cannot remember at all.
I somehow redirected all incoming mail from my server to my gmail account.
I may have done it in somewhere in webmin - or maybe usermin or maybe on the Linode server manager or maybe during Exim setup.... - I simply cannot remember :-(

I have tried changing aliases via usermin - but the forwarding gmail stayed the same.

Now I am thinking that perhaps it was the aliases that needed changing, but that change would not happen before Exim is restarted.

But when I try to restart Exim with /etc/init.d/exim4 start
that does not seem to make any difference either. Not even sure whether that command actually restarts Exim.

So right now all mail from my Joomla contact form are being redirected, but I cannot seem to send ordinary emails to the server and have them redirect - they just bounce. And I cannot find out how to change the forwarding gmail to another gmail.

If anyone has any idea on how I managed to get all email to forward to gmail - or if anyone would like to earn a few bucks via PayPal helping me get this working if it is not straightforward - I would greatly appreciate it.

I think I would like to have a solution installed that can send and receive emails for my domain.

Many thanks
Carl

Perhaps you should try applying for the managed services beta:

viewtopic.php?t=8349

They're doing it for free during the beta period, to get some real-world experience with it, although they're not accepting every request.

Hi Guspaz

Many thanks for pointing me in that direction.
I have just posted a support ticket - will see what they say.
If they cannot help and paid support is not just around the corner, is this something you could help with if you have the time?
Best regards
Carl

Sorry, I don't know enough about mail servers to do that for you.
