Was wanting to ask the Linode community and server admins here about this topic. Could you share your experiences, pain, problems and triumphs when using custom compiled kernels on your linode(s)?

Is it worth messing with ? Was also wondering if anyone would be willing to share the Linode default kernels .config file found in /boot ? I'd like to see what config options the Linux support staff has settled on. Or point me to a resource to review some of the Linode .configs ? Tried googling and forum searches with no joy. Considering signing up with Linode. Still sorting out details ...

You should already have that on your Linode.
Do zcat /proc/config.gz

I don't think he has a Linode yet.

I might be addicted to running custom kernels; I haven't been on the default Linode kernel in a long time, but I did use it as a baseline config originally. My configs are slimmed downed tremendously from there, so YMMV:
