At the moment I have
free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1000 974 26 0 20 95
-/+ buffers/cache: 857 143
Swap: 255 9 246

Ocasionally things get slower and when I login I see I have 190 MB used in swap.
Should I add memory?

You can either upgrade your Linode to a larger configuration or you can find out what's using your RAM and see if you can fine tune it.
