Earlier today I released a 2.6.24.2 based kernel which fixed the vmsplice local root exploit (or in UML's case, local crash). Unfortunately, we discovered that UML has a bug in 2.6.24 which can cause sleep() to hang indefinitely. I'm currently tracking this bug down, but in the meantime, here is 2.6.23.12-linode41 which is patched to close the vmslice exploit.

If you're running 2.6.24-linode38, 2.6.24.2-linode39, or 2.6.24.2-linode40, I recommend you make sure your config profile is set to "Latest 2.6" and reboot.
