Hey folks,

I think this idea looks great! I've been wanting to scale up to something like a virtual private server, though I didn't think I'd be able to afford it. I currently host a bunch of web sites (mainly free-of-charge for non-profits...) on a resold account at a random hosting company offering reseller hosing using CPanel/WHM. This is a great tool as it gives my *ahem* "customers" the ease of adding e-mail accounts and things like that themselves without having to bug me. I noticed that Linode doesn't provide any sort of control panel (other than Webmin, which I think my customers will find too confusing -- even with that Virtual Webmin module). I'd love to get something like CPanel or Ensim WEBppliance (which I love, by the way) or even Plesk to run atop Linode -- but I certainly can't afford to $800 USD license fee for WEBppliance. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheaper (if not free, or better yet, open-source) web control panel similar to CPanel and the others?

If we were going to support a control panel, it would probably be DirectAdmin. I can do special pricing for their licenses (~$10/month), but I wouldn't be able to fully support it yet (read: install would be up to you), as I never got around to rolling out the pre-installed RedHat/DirectAdmin filesystem for beta testing...

if you just need email management, check out vpopmail and qmailadmin. Used together they make a very professional and easy to use email admin interface for your customers.

I have an "Unlimited" DirectAdmin licence which I will be willing to sell within 10 days since I'm abandoning my hosting business.

I will also install it for you if needed.

Just a note - web://cp isn't located at can-host.com anymore but at http://www.web-cp.net

You can get a nice cheap $15 per month cPanel license exclusively for VPSs.
