ok i manage everything etc, but what about security? linode provides that? any support?
Security-wise, Linode provides data center and Host security, but the security of your virtual machine itself is your responsibility. This can be assisted by the community via IRC and the forums here. You may find Linode provides some support via tickets, but they are not obliged to, in any way, so you cannot expect this. The Linode library is also a good resource.

Is it sort of like just renting the machine and power, not the service itself?
Effectively, yes, as well as the internet access, and the support in terms of keeping the host and VM's running effectively.

I, don't know how to install. if i do manage to, what if someone hacks in my stuff...
The install of the base system is done at deployment. The install of software is done by you, with the guidance of this community, the Library articles, stack scripts, or general web searching. If someone hacks your stuff, that's unfortunate, but keep backups. There's no "consequences" aimed at your from Linode if you get hacked, as far as I know.

Depends on what sort of server it is.
