It includes how to set up for DynDNS, which should be roughly translatable to the Linode DNS Manager. I've never used XMPP, just going by Google. |

Hello, Yes, I used the default syntax. But, I'm looking for how to use the _xmpp protocol instead of _tcp or _udp protocols. Regards, cviniciusm. |

XMPP isn't its own transport-layer protocol; it rides over either TCP or UDP (or both?). So, you'll have something like _xmpp._tcp.domain.com and/or _xmpp._udp.domain.com. I don't know the exact syntax, but it's probably something like that. |

Hello, I'm curious about the use of the xmpp protocol on DNS SRV Record at Linode's DNS Manager. Thanks, cviniciusm. |

cviniciusm: What you need to do is to type "_xmpp-server" or "_xmpp-client" (depending on what exactly it is you're looking to do) as the service, then select "tcp" as the protocol. This will generate a SRV DNS entry for _xmpp-server._tcp.<domain> pointing to the target you give. Don't forget to change the port as appropriate, too. [edit: Sorry, didn't realise this was an old thread. Also, I see that "xmpp" is listed in the protocol dropdown now. That seems weird to me; as has been said, XMPP isn't a transport-layer protocol, so how come it's listed?] |
