Forgot my root password, how do I reset?

How do I reset my root password on my Ubuntu instance?

Hey There,

You should be able to reset your root password directly through your Linode Manager by following the steps outlined in the documentation below:

https://www.linode.com/docs/platform/ac … t-password">https://www.linode.com/docs/platform/accounts-and-passwords#resetting-the-root-password

You'll need to shut down your Linode in order for these changes to be put through, but the process should be completed pretty quickly.

Hope that helps!

@rsyracuse I tried to vist this URL that provided, but the page is broken.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since the original post and answer was about five years ago, that URL is likely out of date. Try this one.

Good luck.
