hi, new to linux and vps hosting so pardon if this question sounds stupid.

i want to know if it's possible to order 2 or 3 ip's and set up 2 or 3 partitions on my linode account and be able to host sites off all of the ip/partitions. or is there a better way to do this?

Hi,

Why not use just one server and one IP and then use virtual hosting for all your sites?

You can host 100's (if not 1000's) of sites using one server and one IP. Also cuts down on administering separate servers. It's by far the easiest.

But to answer your question - if you order one server, you can only run one server at a time. Of course, you can order multiple servers, each with its own IP, but that won't make sense if all you want to do is host multiple sites.

One server can handle multiple IPs, if you so require. Don't forget that you have to justify extra IPs in accordance with ARIN rules (normally you only need extra IPs to host multiple TLS (https://) sites). Multiple IPs to prevent your customers realising they are all on one host is not an acceptable justification (so they all need TLS, right?).
