Hi guys,

Just took a VPS with linode.
I have no experience with linux, It took me 1 hour to figure out how to connect to my console lol. I was really like, ok i'm registered, what do I do now to connect to this thing...

Anyway.

I installed ubuntu and I want to install ISPconfig, I follow the tutorial over at howtoforge, but I need to install Bind9. What effect it will have over the linode DNS manager?

Thank you!

Cedric

It will have no effect whatsoever unless you use your VPS as nameservers for your domains. And I personally wouldn't recommend running your own nameserver unless you need advanced capabilities not offered by Linode's own DNS manager. It's tough to beat a free, fully managed, geographically redundant DNS solution like that!

Unfortunately, it seems that ISPConfig requires Bind9 to be installed. If you don't need it, just disable it in ISPConfig's admin panel. Saves you a few megabytes of RAM.
