My VPS is CentOS

#cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5.4 (Final)

#cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.18.8-linode22 (root@build.linode.com) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #1 SMP Tue Nov 10 16:12:12 UTC 2009

I suspect this has to do with Xen virtualization, but I'm a bit of a noob. Can someone help me understand why the Ubuntu process?

You're using one of the kernels provided by Linode, which they happen to compile on Ubuntu.

There's nothing Ubuntu-y about the kernels. They're relatively vanilla.
