Pretty terrible. What assurance do we have that the DNS issues will be resolved? Two 30-minute downtimes in such a sort period, followed by a DDOS attack.

My confidence in linode has been severly shaken.

What DNS issues?

Why do you expect Linode to control the entire Internet, not to mention guarantee perfection from equipment they do not even purchase nor maintain?

If your site is so important to you, why have you not set up redundancy on all levels?

The DNS servers have been down several times recently, as you can see in the two unknown host times.

I don't expect 100% uptime - that is, of course, impossible. But when a whole lot of issues like this come together after long periods of no problems, It does make you worried.

For instance, recently linode's ns1 through ns4 were down, these are all at different datacenters and there is no reason they should not be more independent.

As i type this, I my sites have gone down again, but it appears to have just been a temporary network hiccup.

-- Also, during most of these downtimes status.linode.com has not been updated. (IRC works well though).

However it would be nice to get a proper explanation for how ns1-ns4 can all go down at the same time.

Your one line in a log isn't showing me that they're all down. Are you sure the software you're using actually tried all 4?

I was awake at the time, so checked it myself. (also confirmed by everyone on the irc channel). Ns1-4 were down, ns5 was up.
