Although linode is a good host, they aren't the best for everything.

Different providers have different strong points. I for example have a VPS with a different company because I needed a windows VPS for certain reasons. People with large projects should have backup VPS's on other providers just in case Linode manage to break something. There are also other providers which supply a much larger amount of hard drive space, for those who need more disk space than anything else.

It is not unreasonable to have a comparison of other VPS's here. In fact I'd prefer it if Linode had a preferred partner for such things, a recommendation of a host which provides things out of Linodes strong area.

No problem, I learned the staff policy and no problem for me if this are the rules.

I always talked about Linode's staff as a great awesome service in italian forums (WHT italian forum), obiusly after this thread
I will shut up because it's not my intention to talk bad about a service I like and it's not my intention to spread the word about a service that isn't so kind with me.

Yes Linode is a good service. I've tried many over the years. The technical expertise they offer, the quality of the connections, the whole experience. I just hope they don't get bought out.

Linode have already turned down at least one offer. caker has been in the business long enough to know that if Linode were to become the Xen VPN division of some big corporation, they would lose some of the 'Linodeness' and their unique selling proposition (service quality+reliability+technical expertise+ a kind of personal service that is unavailable anywhere else) would be diluted or lost.
