Hey all,

I'm a linux noob, trying to migrate 4 sites, and 4 subdomains to linode coming from mediatemple. I also aim to have email set up.

I installed Ubuntu 10.4 on my linode, Apache2, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, and Citadel.

I think I have everything I need, but am totally lost as to how to correctly config.

To make matters worse, my domain names are being transferred and currently can't change their NS pointers.

Can I get some help configuring the DNS and email please?

Thanks in advance!

That's way too broad a question for anyone to be able to provide you with any useful help. What specific issues are you running into?

Have you checked out the relevant guides in the Linode Library?

Ok, here's a more specific question.

I added the domains to my local host in the mean time.

But when I resolve to any of the sites, I get a Forbidden page.
Error logs read as follows:

Options FollowSymLinks or SymLinksIfOwnerMatch is off which implies that RewriteRule directive is forbidden:

EDIT: solved by adding FollowSymLinks to sites-available virtual host file.

A different question:

I have installed citadel but have been unable to reach it in my browser. How can I reach it?

What did you configure as your system's hostname?

Assuming you haven't switched your DNS over, you'll need to use your local hosts file to 'trick' your local machine to use the new address when you type the url in your browser.

Not sure why phpBB doesn't like my url there...

I believe you need to configure it for the mailname, but I don't use citadel, so I don't know how it configures its virtualhosts.

You may want to check out the Linode IRC channel for more "real-time" community assistance. http://www.linode.com/irc/

Thanks for your help so far JshWright,

I'm not tied to Citadel, it seemed to be the best for beginners.

Do you recommend a different way to do email?

How many users do you have? If it's not a lot, google apps.
