When I try to update my sources list I get may errors such as

Code:
Err http://security.debian.org lenny/updates/main Packages
  404 Not Found [IP: 2001:4f8:8:36::6 80

Code:
W: Failed to fetch http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/oldstable/main/binary-i386/Packages  404 Not Found [IP: 2001:630:206:4000:1a1a:0:c13e:ca1c 80]

I have seen similar problems posted on this form but could not find a solution to help me.

My sources.list file is the following:

Code:
######### My New sources.list file

deb http://archive.debian.org/debian oldstable main non-free
deb-src http://archive.debian.org/debian oldstable main non-free

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ lenny-updates main non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ lenny-updates main non-free

deb http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main non-free

# I added the following to get postgresql 8.4 in debian 5
deb http://www.backports.org/debian  lenny-backports main contrib

I was getting the same errors with my original sources.list file that came with linode.

My linode is in Newark NJ, USA.

Any help would be much appreciated.

bdika

My goal is to install Postgresql 8.4 from backports.

Security updates for Lenny ended on 6 February 2012. Lenny packages have been moved to 'archive.debian.org'. You really should upgrade to Squeeze.
