A problem with our Hurricane Electric network connection was resolved yesterday afternoon, shortly after I brought it to their attention.
We have been receiving 2-20 Mbits/sec of traffic that didn't belong to us (it wasn't getting switched out), and as a result, my switch was forwarding all that traffic to each of the host servers. This had the effect of increasing interrupts from the Ethernet cards by about 10 fold, and was causing the host machines to spend a large fraction of their processing time to handling these interrupts.
Linode members at Hurricane Electric (host9 and up) should notice improved network and host performance as a result of the fix.
Thanks,
-Chris
