Any chances of seeing slackware-14 32bit/64bit as option for install? 13.37 is getting dated, and manually doing the 13.37 -> 14.0 upgrade is quite time consuming.

Slackware images are definitely low on the priority list, but I'll try to allocate some time for it.

now - I understand they are low priority. How soon before 14.0 images are ready?

Linode, where are you guys at regarding offering Slackware 14 images? 14.0 was released a year ago.

I'm having issues installing my own VirtualBox rolled Slackware 14 images, so would welcome the availability of said images from Linode's official list.

Please bump up the priority to offer these images. Slackware64 would of course be ideal, so that large instances are fully usable.

Thanks.

At the rate of things will we get the 14.0 images when 14.1 is released?

In all honesty, don't bother with 14.0 images. Please standby for 14.1. However with entirely missing 14.0 - I'm hoping Linode pushes the 14.1 images fairly quickly.

Thanks,

my ubuntu broke and basically just give up on trying to fix it. now updating slackware 13.37 to 14.0 has proven tricky. i'm thinking the best way is to run 13.37 on a small disk, install packages using the ROOT= method to a new partition, then to try to boot that. has anybody tried this?

Depending on your network connection, might be easier to just install via VirtualBox and rsync the entire filesystem up to a Linode in Finnix.

looks like it may be the only thing to do. theckman, I may have read somewhere on another forum post that you no longer maintain the images - at this point, is there any hope to see an updated slackware image? otherwise, I will have to somehow fight way through a VirtualBox install just to do this upgrade...

I'm no longer a member of the Linode team. Off living my dreams of residing in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I could sit here and speculate on the chances of an image being made, but that doesn't accomplish anything. As the numbers show on the marketing site, Slackware deployment percentages are so low that they aren't even counted. I'm not saying that's a reason to never release an update, but it may explain why it doesn't get the same amount of love as other distributions. In addition, I'm not sure how my previous responsibilities have been distributed when it comes to distribution template refreshes.

In short, not sure where a Slackware update stands. VirtualBox shouldn't be too difficult, just follow the instructions in the Linode Library for a custom distro. Instead of doing a dd, create a blank ext3 image and do an rsync of your root partition (/dev/sda1 for example). Rsync sends less bits across the wire. One important note, make sure your VirtualBox image's rootfs is ext3.
