I just read an article about OSv on Slashdot. It is a small operating system designed specifically to work in the virtual environment. It should be small, faster, and more efficient. It purportedly runs Linux applications.

Sound good but its early in its development cycle.

I wonder if it may work on a Linode sometime in the future?

According to one of their slides, Xen PV support is in progress. Once that's working, it'd be worth a shot trying it on Linode.

There are a lot of restrictions that don't make this good for general use. The restrictions on fork() and exec() alone rule out running any regular distro whatsoever on here. This is designed to run specific applications, not full systems, and so only has niche use-cases (ie, where sub-millisecond differences in performance actually matter)
