In light of the recent (current?) outtages at a Linode datacenter, I think it would be appropriate for Linode.com to have a public (or at least for members) MRTG status page.

It seems ridiculous to have multiple forum topics pop up discussing and trying to diagnose the same outtage.

I would see this as a huge service to the Linode.com community and serve to greatly increase the communities feeling that we're informed of issues affecting our services.

Thanks for all the hard work Chris!

Sorry, I'm a bit of a n00b at some things, but what is a MRTG.

I'm in favor of a MRTG page as well. Not necesarily public as some potential users might not like the outages that pop up from time to time.

I think this would be good.

Speaking of outages, perhaps a mailing list would be better to report outages, or potential problems with Linode and its service. I don't check Linode forums often, and if my linode starts acting funny I'm going to immediately start lookiing at my server. A quick email I would get sooner than checking the Forums, and would alleviate possible headaches.

Caker put this group together for that, but I haven't seen it actually put to use still:

you can just subscribe to the network status forum. You will then automatically receive an email when a new post is made or topic added in that forum.

Just go to http://www.linode.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=25 and click the "watch this forum" link at the bottom, or simply click this link: http://www.linode.com/forums/viewforum. ... um&start=0
