Hi,

I know the list of distributions is already very good, but I was wondering if there was any way to add Trustix to the list?

It's not a highly deployed distribution, but I've been using it for a few years and would love to continue doing so. It was based off RH, but with a very high focus on security, which means that it has a much lower footprint than RH. It's also a lot faster on updates, and all the added security features are really nice.

Thanks for the info!

If you want to use it, you can always load a minimal debian config, make a separate disk image, and rsync an image that *you* create over to your node.

That minimal Debian config is extremely handy. You may even decide you like Debian and stick with it!

Of course, you may want to wait until Caker deploys a Sarge image, since that should be released any day now. I'm guessing he has a Sarge image pretty much ready to go at this point, just waiting for the official word...

Sorry, never heard of such a process... Would you happen to know where I could get more information on doing that?

Thanks again

Hey,

I haven't done this myself, but based from Jay's suggestion it should look something like this:

  1. Install Trustix on a local PC (only in ONE partition).
  2. Then change the fstab entries of that OS to match your Linode configuration
  3. Create an image of the partition using dump or similar methods.
Then on your linode side:
  1. Create a small debian install + some swap + another partition.
  2. Boot into the debian system, format the other partition.
  3. Upload the image, and then install it on that partition.
  4. Then change Linode settings to boot from that partition.

I wrote up a little how-to on the modifications required to make a custom distro run in our environment:

http://www.linode.com/wiki/index.php/Cu ... stribution

This doesn't tell you how to transfer the data up, but there are many options (uncompressing a tarball onto a blank image, rsync, etc).

Additions to the how-to welcome :)

-Chris
