Well, I can't speak for the Linode folks, but if it's important enough to require a response, opening a support ticket is recommended. That will guarantee a response, from my understanding (and past experience).
Well, if they're officially here in this forum I think they shouldn't just ignore some questions... but... you're right, if it's important then you should open up a support ticket (ignoring that that might result in the Linode staff getting lots of support questions about feature requests, instead of just one request in the forum)...
BUT... on the third of this month I did open a support ticket (regarding an upgrade), but I still haven't gotten any kind of response from them... So about nine days' passed without them even saying "you're X:th inline, we're hoping to be able to upgrade in Y days".
Edit: Just thought that I'd add that I don't really need the upgrade right now, I was just preparing for the future and, most importantly, I wanted to see what kind of response you get when asking for an upgrade; so that I will know for the future when/if I need more "power" on short notice...
