I'd like to request that you make a new disk image for Debian Lenny, and upgrade your Arch image.

Along with being old, the Arch image is broken. It is broken in the sense that, on 2 different VPSes, the image gave us nothing but problems (in one; filesystem errors, in another; it denied our hosts at random). I have also installed Arch before, so I do know how to set it up.

Some feedback on this would be appreciated. Thank you Linode.

+1 on updated Arch image.
I am fully aware that Arch is a "rolling-release" system and that the image provided can "easily" be updated to current version, just like Debian could "easily" be updated to current release without the need for an updated image.

Still, there have been quite a lot of changes in Arch from the time the image was created, and having a current image (One based on 2009.02) would save your Arch customers hours of updating, tweaking and cleaning up the system.

I can't say I've had any problems installing Arch on either of my Linodes, although mkinitcpio seems to have disappeared between my first and second Linode.

Having the latest could possibly fix this I guess.

Well, I tried Arch again. This time I ran it on a completely different Linode, and I'm still getting the same problems.

First, I created the disk image, then I booted it. I changed the hostname. I did a full system upgrade after that, installing sudo and vim also. Then, I changed my PS1 and reconnected to SSH for it to change.

I unexpectedly got this message when trying to reconnect:
Code:
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

Hoping it was temporary, I rebooted and got this message:
Code:
ssh: connect to host bakery.ath.cx port 22: Connection refused

It would appear that the Arch image or maybe something I installed is at fault. Can you please look into this? I'd sure appreciate it.

EDIT: I'm checking some stuff out in Lish right now. Hopefully I can fix the problem.

EDIT:
Code:
:: Starting Secure Shell Daemon
[BUSY] OpenSSL version mismatch. Built against 908070, you have 9080bf [FAIL]
...

Are you using the Latest 2.6 kernel, or one of the newer development kernels? Arch tends to have problems with older kernels (including the stable 2.6.18-* one), so try running a newer dev kernel (e.g. 2.6.29-linode18) instead.

Note that there are a few good reasons why Latest 2.6 doesn't point at a newer kernel yet; specifically, keep an eye on your clock and set up ntpd if it starts drifting.
