I would like to generate MRTG graphs of network traffic on my Linode, but am unable to do so because the Linode kernel lacks SNMP support.

What kernel option (from .config) do you need, exactly? I was only able to find an experimental SNMP net-filter AG snmp option...

I thought snmp was done in user-space...

Maybe I'm missing something in my userspace config then. I'll check again, but I basically took a working configuration from another machine and modified it for this one. ISTR enabling something or other in the kernel to make it work on that other machine, though.

I had neglected to change the interface number in mrtg.cfg. The other machine has multiple ethernet interfaces.

After some more poking about in SNMP I've discovered that eth0 is actually the 4th interface, as far as SNMP is concerned. The first three are lo, teql0, and ipddp0, and there are also tunl0, gre0, and sit0 that come after eth0.

Code:
cat /proc/net/dev

A couple of pipes later and I have pretty graphs like this:

Of course, I might be wrong on my math of figuring bits per second :)
