When reboot using the Linode web control panel, everything good. When I reboot using the command-line in my Linode, it does a shutdown, not a reboot. Am I doing something stupid, or is this a limitation of UML?

I believe I saw caker mention once that the UML kernels are hard coded to do a shutdown (even when you specify a reboot) as there are tasks that his scripts need to perform after a linode shuts down and before it starts back up. So this is expected behavior.

I can second that, it was brought up in a forum post. Though something a bit spiffy, the new "Linode Shell (lsh)" that you get when you ssh into the console will be extended in the future to allow you to give commands that you would from the Linode Control Panel such as reboot.

Right now all the lsh does is ask you if you want to try to reconnect to a screen session or not when you dettatch. May seem small but a great annoyance saver so you don't have to dettach twelve times to get away from the console.

I have an idea on how to make reboot actually reboot -- it involves the UML kernel exiting with a specific exit-code when a "reboot" was issued. I can look for that on the host, and if so, the scripts can run (network settings, new ubd devices, etc) and then boot the Linode back online.

For now, the only method is to reboot/shutdown/poweroff, and then boot from the LPM.
