I administer three Linodes. I use hosts 4, 8, and 12.
I'm interested in (among other things) using a proxy server to cache Debian packages and save download time and bandwidth.
It seems to me that this would work perfectly if all three linodes were on the same machine.
Failing that, 2nd best would be if they were in the same data center.
If one Linode was in HE and one in ThePlanet, I don't think there would be any advantage to caching.
So, my questions:
A) Are my above statements correct?
B) How can I find out which data center a host uses?
C) How's that Linode Debian mirror coming along? {grin} (Since most people don't use the vast majority of the packages in the Debian archive, perhaps a better solution for Linode than a Debian mirror would be a caching proxy server on each host?)
D) Would it be possible to move one or more Linodes so they share a host? What would be the cost for doing this both destructively (with data loss) and without data loss?
E) Would TCP/IP connections between Linodes in the same data center be routed through the data center's internal network or would they go through the broader Internet?
