One complaint I have about the DNS manager on Linode, is the delay it takes for an update to happen.

It is my only complaint. Other hosts that I've used will update DNS records right away, whereas with Linode if you happen to make a change at say 16 minutes past the hour, the zonefile won't be regenerated until a bit after 30 minutes past the hour, and then it still seems to take another 5-10 minutes before it propagates to all the DNS servers. This makes it difficult when moving sites around, as there's extra delay (even if you've shortened the TTL to 5 minutes for the move - because the zonefiles and the actual propagation to the servers takes much longer than 5 minutes).

Are there any plans to change this so that updating happens more quickly?

One alternative that doesn't require any changes by Linode is to operate your own master on your Linode itself, and slave the Linode DNS servers to yours, with appropriate notifys set up. You can still register the Linode servers for the zone, so no difference externally, but you take control of managing the zone rather than using the DNS portion of Linode Manager.

In that case, changes on your master are reflected on the Linode servers as soon as they are notified, so virtually instantaneous to your making a local change. The Linode servers also periodically check without a notify but that's nowhere near as fast.
