I'm having problems with the forums, where if my session lasts longer than X minutes (where X is something small), it goes away - and my "last visited" information goes with it. This makes it impossible to keep track of the latest posts in threads unless I open up a zillion tabs, and it also causes problems when I post (I just got an "invalid session" message on my last post that required me to resubmit it).

Anyone else having this problem?

Not directly related to the forums issue, but I quite often get session timeouts while in the "control panel" switching between tabs say "Network" back to "Dashboard".

Yah. Lately the board is considering me logged out after only a couple of minutes of "idle" (reading a longer topic or writing a post)....

Try clearing all the cookies associated with the forum; fixed the problem for me!

Clearing all the (linode.com bound) cookies does not solve the problem. While it fixes situations where I cannot even login, I still get logged out after a few clicks. This is fourth time I'm trying to post this message.

I'm now getting this problem.

How's this for a short session?!

You last visited on Thu Oct 21, 2010 6:04 pm
The time now is Thu Oct 21, 2010 6:07 pm

No wonder all the messages get marked as read :-(

* Bump *

I was thinking my chrome browser is at fault. I regularly clear all the cookies / temp files using ccleaner and still every time i try to log into the forum, it registers my last visited time and logs me out instantly without even 1 second of being logged in. When I do it the second time, the logged status stays but my last visit time is gone. And me too have to open us at least 15~20 tabs to track new posts and replies.

I am using XP, Google Chrome [latest, but problem persists since I was using v6].

I am confused if it is a problem with the browser / forum ??? Really its annoying to visit soo many individual posts for updates... :(

Even now while I wrote this small reply soon after logging and reading this topic, while posting I get Invalid Session. Please resubmit the form. While it is still showing me as logged in...

I'm not 100% sure, but I think www.linode.com is spread between a few load balancers. Could it be they're not sharing the session data, somehow?

Every developer/sysadmin has a to-do list, and there's always a lump of coal that sits at the bottom of it for all eternity because dealing with it will be a pain in the ass.

If it were on my to-do list, "Fix phpBB on the cluster" would be that item.

-rt ("Scoop up the landmines and mow the lawn")

This reply probably isn't going to come through even though I'm logged in.

But I 2nd mwalling's comment. Replace this crappy software. (let the phpBB advocates come out of the woodwork now....)

My first advice would be SMF, but I hear phpBB 3 is fine too. As long as it has "VIEW UNREAD POSTS" option that KEEPS unread between two logins, I'm all fine. :D

btw, what is there to "fix" phpbb on a cluster? just have memcached handle sessions...
