In the Linode Manager, the backup tab uses GMT -5 for the timezone. It would be great if you guys did the math for us and displayed that using our selected timezone under our profile.

It is a bit early for me in the morning and trying to do the math between 24 hour time and the EST to PST difference took longer than it normally would

Even if I have had my coffee, if it's showing my timezone then I can know at a glance the window when my backup happens.

This would allow for variation with local DST as well.

Even if it were set to GMT rather than GMT-5 it would be a little more "standard".

GMT-5 is quite awkwark for anyone outside the US, plus you are dealing with backups...

When someone needs one, he may be panicking already, and doing timezone math would make things worse!!

Yeah, I suppose that's the main problem with using anything but a fixed offset.

I guess the alternative would be for the user to select an offset for this purpose, but if the Backup Window setting were to adhere to the regular profile timezone setting I think that it would become unclear when the backups actually run (would they then be expected to run at different "absolute" times depending on local DST rules?).




The listing under Backup History already appears to use the timezone from the profile, I suspect that is what the panic-struck person will be most interested in anyway? Seems more plausible than panicking over the Backup Window setting...
