After following the slashdot link to the article on 2.6 performance (http://www.infoworld.com/infoworld/arti ... nux_1.html), I came back to revisit my attempted switch to the 2.6 kernel on my linode. I have LVM set up, and it didn't work last time.

This time, I found that 2.6 had disappeared. My experimental config lists 2.6.0-linode1-1um as the kernel, but, if I edit it, I can no longer select a 2.6 kernel. Where'd the 2.6 kernels go, and, when will they be back?

Apparently, there is an issue running a 2.6 UML kernel on a 2.4 when the UML instance has a newer glibc with ntpl threads compiled in. From the UML mailing lists posts, I get the feeling Jeff isn't convinced this is the real reason, so there might be a bug within 2.6um.

So, either the UML bug will be fixed, or soon (perhaps within 6 mo) the hosts will be running 2.6 and this issue will be moot.
