Just an idea, On the Consle Access page it would be nice to have something like the mindterm ssh java applet to have quick access to the console.

Not sure if this will work though, from what I recall from the last time I used the applet it had to be served from the same host that you were connecting too.

That is correct. You could of course run the applet on your own webserver on your Linode.

Are you sure about that?

E.g. I just used http://www.astro.umd.edu/ssh/mindtermNS.html to connect to my linode.

I would put it on my own box but I'm not running SSH on my linode. I am SSHing to the host and admining through the console. This way I save a couple Mb of RAM by not running SSHd or inetd when I'm not going to be SSHd in that often

The average Java applet can't access any server but it's host. Signed Java applets are allowed to.

I was not aware of MindTerm, but it looks pretty cool.

I've used mindterm for years, it's pretty cool. There are signed versions out there that let you connect to any host. On my server I have several containing web pages, and the signed and unsigned java JAR/CABs. That way I can connect to my host on almost any computer through SSH. Through the applet and param tags in the web page you can tell it to use a default host and username, configure colors, etc. If you already have apache running, you could install the java and html files for mindterm, specifiy that it connect by default to the console host with your username, and use that to connect over the web.

Another thing you guys may be interested in is WiredX.net. This is a java applet X server, so you can in theory run X stuff in a web page. They have some security and compression options, I think it will run through an SSH tunnel for better security. I haven't had as much luck with this, X is kinda slow over the net and through java, and I end up wanting a console more anyway.

Although there's one problem - as far as I know this doesn't support SSHv2.
