So I know I can "mount options=ro" or something like that, but for something like an IDS such as AIDE I can't rely on the fact that only root can mount/unmount things. If I want to have an AIDE database and config and all the accompanying items that checks my sever for file changes every day I can only use the ro option with mount and have to hope no one roots my system and changes the DB. At this time, I just keep a completely separate duplicated disk image from my regular AIDE image that has an aide.db copy on it and I mount it and check it every so often.

My suggestion is that you have a feature where, in the cpanel, I can set a disk image to read-only so even if I'm root on my system I cannot mount it rw. This could be a check box that you can check and uncheck so you are able to write to the disk at some point, of course and might even require a different password for each disk or a re-entry of your linode.com password to make sure.

I'm not sure how this can be implemented, but if so it might be a nice security addition. Thanks!
