Hey, how about adding a very simple issue tracker to the Manager? We could use that to schedule TODOs, keep track of server, config changes, etc... Also, it could serve as an impartial issue tracker in case a client (of a Linode user) decides to complain about something that happened 6 months ago....

Hrrm... based on experience with other such non-core-mission convenience features in other applications, I fear it would probably suck and be easily broken by future changes. It's the nature of the beast.

How about something like Hiveminder? It has Group capability (so you could have a group for each client, perhaps), as well as some other nifty stuff like time tracking. Computers and/or humans can also stick stuff in there via e-mail, perl-friendly API, Twitter, etc.

I don't know what could be broken here. I'm thinking of something like GitHub. It has git, issue tracker and wiki nicely integrated. In fact, I'm using a private repo to keep track of config files, puppet stuff, and I use its issue tracker well.... to keep track of server administration issues. :)

It would basically have to be a simple "blog" like system with comments and optimally tags.

My 2¢...

I'd rather Linode just stay focused on the core functionality needed to allow me to manage my VPS. I do not think this is one of those core features. Additionally, there are whole other businesses dedicated to this type of thing, so it's not like you can't get it elsewhere. I fear if Linode integrated this feature suggestion, it would detract from what's really important.

I agree. And if you ever left linode (I don't know why you would), would you also abandon all of the historical data in the tracker?

I use drupal for the todos and git for the config files, you can host it on your linode and it's low maintenance works for me.

Something like this would be purely a convenience feature. It wouldn't enhance the Linode service, just something nice to have. I can easily do it myself.

That said, I'd like to see it added. Despite how easily I can do it, it would take awhile since I don't have enough time to spend at the computer.
