I recently installed the Gentoo distribution onto my linode, and I'd like to use a 2.6 kernel. I tried a couple of them (sorry, I forget which), but in each case, they wouldn't boot up, because there was a filesystem-related module that Gentoo wants that wasn't compiled or loaded into the kernel.

Do any of you know which, if any of the 2.6 kernels here work for the Gentoo distribution?

I'm using latest with Gentoo, with no problems. Just check the wiki for the few "gotchas"

OK. I checked the wiki, and there's nothing there concerning the problem that I'm having. Since I can't boot up in Gentoo at all with that kernel, the gotchas on the wiki don't apply, since these are all issues that pertain to a running (i.e., already booted) Gentoo system under Linode.

Also, I'm using the 2.6 kernel called "Latest 2.6 Series (2.6.15-linode16 [experimental])". With the standard Linode Gentoo distribution, this fails to boot up. Here's the last part of what shows up on the console when the Gentoo distribution tries to boot up with this kernel:

    e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

I can boot up into Debian 3.1 (Sarge) with this same kernel, with no problem.

Also, I have no problem booting into Gentoo with the latest 2.4 kernel.

Furthermore, I tried a couple other 2.6 kernels and I have the same inability to boot into Gentoo.

Any ideas?

Thanks ... this is just the information I was looking for.

Even after making the appropriate changes, I'm still getting the warning about not having DEVFS. Is there another gentoo profile or something that I should be using to avoid this warning?
