Is there a way to direct the dns to your actual server and have it read Reverse DNS's you setup yourself? Or is Linode's reverse DNS tool the only thing that will work?

You have to use the Reverse DNS tool in the Members panel

Main reasoning is that subdelegation of each IP to the customers would seem to most people quite a lot of work. The Linode setup is typical of quite a few other places.
