i was trying to install sbackup on my ubuntu 6.06 linode
here is the terminal output:

what should i do?

sbackup has no depend on the kernel-image, that's caused by the depends on rhcs-modules-4. So . . . dont use those packages?

that seems odd.
nearly everything i try to install depends on rhcs-modules-4
why cant I install them on a linode?

rhcs-modules-4 is a virtual package that is provided by the various kernel images.

Kernel images are irrelevant to Linodes, because you have to use the kernels provided by Linode.com - but you should still be able to install one.

okay,
so i can install a new kernel and grub but the linode will ignore them.
ok.

now that got me to install davfs
but. when i try to mount a webdav it gives the error:

Kernel does not support coda,or the coda-module is not loaded.

hmm.. does this mean i cannot use coda with user mode linux and linode...
please say it aint so...

Linode disallows kernel module insertion for security reasons - if you can insert modules, you can take over the host.

You can try asking for coda support to be added to the next kernel build - if it's useful and stable, caker can be persuaded to add stuff.

looks like i have reached the limits of usermode linux. time to go with XEN.

I'm pretty sure a Xen host would have the same issues...

i have seen xen hosts that allow you to run your own kernel and load modules...
