I can use putty just fine, but when I try to use winscp to connect to my server, the program stops at "Starting the session" and just hangs there forever. I tried to login other servers just fine.

Any suggestion is really appreciated since Im a linux newbie.

Regards

...shooting in the dark...

Perhaps make sure you have winscp set to use *scp* not *sftp*. I believe it defaults to sftp.

Thank you for the suggestion. It was set to sftp indeed, and I changed to scp just now, still stuck though. This is weird, winscp bug?

The same folks that make PuTTY distribute a command-line scp client. You could try that...or just install Cygwin. Then you'll get a decent shell to work in as well.
