Hi,

I just put up a fresh ubuntu 8.04 installation. I am using putty to ssh into the box, and curses based apps (like aptitude and sysv-rc-conf) seem to just show a bunch of garbage characters (with a few OK ones, just enough to make some of it out). Any have any idea why this is happening?

nevermind, it works now. I was logging in through the console rather than directly
