I'm not sure this is not a silly feature request, but here it goes:

Say I have a 5GB disk image and I also have at least that large free (non-disk) space on my linode.

It'd be very useful if there was a way to create an exact copy of that disk image by creating a backup image. This would be extremely useful when people do all the installations, fine tuning etc. to get their server ready to go online and want to make an easy backup at that stage. Then, if you make an exact copy of the disk image, even if you mess things up later, you'd be able to one-click-restore the backup image to the messed up disk image.

I'm aware that there is a "clone" feature between linodes, but something that works between disk images (I have a single linode) would also be great.

Am I missing something? I do this all the time. Just click the link to the disk image and when the details come up there's an option to make a duplicate. As long as you have overall disk space available, you're good to go.

No, you are not. I'm the one who is missing something. I never needed the "edit disk image" screen, so I've never seen the "duplicate" button. Thanks!
