I tried to use the console for a linode, but it went unresponsive. Now a reboot issued from the web interface is taking a while to complete (presumably this will time out in a few minutes). I tried the AJAX console and lish. The webserver remained responsive throughout. Kernel was 2.6.18.8-linode10.

Any ideas on how to deal with this in the future?

TIA :)

Two possibilities:

We deployed a new console binary on November 4th. We have yet to receive any reports of a stuck console for Linodes that have rebooted after that date (but perhaps it's still too early).

Switch to the newer kernel - 2.6.27.4-linode4, as outlined here.

Thanks for the quick reply. :)

I will be happy to test the new kernel on my personal linode when it gets switched to Xen, however for the time being I think I'll be sticking with "latest" for the linode where this occurred.

Have you tried the SSH console?

I had the same problem a few days ago. I indvertely also send about 4 reboot request to my server because I thought the server was completely stuck and I was getting ready to submit a ticket for it.

After the reboot, I haven't had a problem with the new binary.
