Other sites sell both domains and hosting. Linode doesn't offer this.

Who's a good vendor to go with for buying a domain? I'm looking for decent price, decent service, and not getting ****ed over.

I've been using EasyDNS for several years now and been very pleased. Never had any issues with them and they give you full control over each of your domain's zone files.

I've been happy with domainmonger.com for a few domains. I admit I don't do much, though: I bought the domains and set the nameservers (zoneedit.com), and except for a couple of renewals, haven't touch them since.

If you're looking for somebody who you know will never **** you over AND also give you a good price, give NearlyFreeSpeech.NET a try. Their business ethics and privacy policy are "nearly" second to none. ("Nearly", because I can't really compare them against our Great Linode.) They don't advertise their domain registration services, though, because their primary focus is on the very peculiar kind of micropayment-based web hosting that they do.

DynDNS, they've been in the business for ages, they never upsell, and they do DNS for free if you can make do with a subdomain of one of their many second-levels. I used this for quite a while when I was young and poor, and they won a customer forever.

2nd DynDNS

I use them for all of my accounts and have never had a issue or failed query. Very easy domain CP with advanced view if you like to add special record types.

And you can use the Linode DNS servers for a domain registered through www.dynadot.com, right? So far they're the cheapest I've found for a specific domain I was looking for ($4.99).

EDIT: Nevermind, I tried it and I was able to do that just fine.

The only domain i've registered is through joker.com, no complaints, cheap enough. For non-biz stuff i'd go for dynDNS.

I've been using HFW Domains for a while, been happy with them. They're a decent registar and I use DNS Made Easy and love them for my DNS.

I use gkg, netsol and godaddy. They are not bad, and most record will update in realtime. I have used 1and1 as well which has free private registrar, but they do not register your domain in real time and no ipv6 dns glue.

Sorry...yes.....they also do bulk discounts and have the best domain control panel in the industry.

Other recommendations include:
www.namecheap.com
www.fabulous.com
www.moniker.com

If you don't mind paying a little more:
www.dyndns.com
www.pairnic.com

I have very modest needs, so I use 1&1 as an el cheapo registrar. Used to be with GoDaddy, but got tired of their incessant marketing come-ons and horrible web interface.

Not as cheap, but if they are as obsessive about registration as they are about their hosting, you should be essentially bulletproof with pair.
