I.e., is there a way to issue the command "uml_mconsole config", which makes resources available to a UML without a reboot, at least with regards disks?

Right now, I am just setting up my UML, so a reboot is no biggie. But wouldn't it be nice to be able to have a newly created disk available without downtime to a UML?

Hi,

It is one of the many things that you have to reboot for, you will also have to reboot to add IP addresses and if you do other disk operations through the CP.

Some things are going to be changing but I dont think not having to reboot for disk changes will be the case.

If I'm going to support hotplugging, I'd do it all the way -- that includes IPs AND adding/removing disk images. UML provides this through it's host-side management utility (uml_mconsole, as jsabino mentioned).

However, this is fairly far down on the to-do list.

While your doing that chris can you also if possible make it possible for a images read\write status to be changed without an reboot as well.

Thanks,

Adam

Good suggestion.

Removing (and then adding back a device r/o) requires that the device is unmounted inside the UML. So, if anything, operations like remove (or replace) disk device would just error out if the device was still in use :)

That would not be a problem.

It is just a nice level of security to have to be able to have a drive as read only as the host level set through the CP and mounted as read only and then when it needs to be rw, been updated through both the CP and node before this can be done.

And all without any down time.

And just to make all this nice and automatted could all this be done via lish when you get round to it.

Boot reboot and rsa first!!
